St. Barts, commonly known as Saint Barthelemy, is a little Caribbean paradise with a picturesque capital, Gustavia, and is regarded as one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful islands. There are countless tiny pockets of tropical heaven hidden around the island, wedged between headlands and between spectacular cliffs, with white powdery sands and beautiful, crystal-clear water. There are a total of 16 beaches, each with its own particular personality. The island’s colonial history has infused its culture with a wonderful blend of distinct traits that include French and Swedish elegance, refinement, and flair. Gustavia, despite its small size in comparison to other Caribbean capitals, offers a slew of high-end stores, upscale restaurants, and a few historical sites.
Gustavia
Gustavia is the capital of the French overseas collectivity in the French West Indies and the biggest town on the island of St. Barts. It is located on St. Barts’ west shore (Saint-Barthelemy). The city is situated around the port, a natural cove that opens onto Gustavia Bay. Picturesque Gustavia proudly bears traces of a long Scandinavian presence and a rich French historical past: ruins of ancient forts, a lovely Anglican church with a wooden bell tower, the Wall House, island-style dwellings with colorful shutters, Swedish period warehouses, and a traditional neighborhood situated on a small fishing beach.
