Castries is the capital and largest city of the Caribbean island state of Saint Lucia. It is famous for palm-lined Vigie Beach and as a port of call for cruise lines. Shoppers go to the city’s dozens of boutiques and Castries Market for fruits, vegetables, and handicrafts, as well as duty-free shopping near the harbor. Cruise passengers will arrive at either La Place Carenage or the larger Pointe Seraphine. The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, with its vibrant murals, is located near the lush Derek Walcott Square park. Morne Fortune Hill in the south provides views of the city.
