La Romana is a port city on the Caribbean coast of the Dominican Republic. Historically, commercial ships carrying sugar and molasses docked at the Casa de Campo International Tourist Port (Muelle Turstico Internacional Casa de Campo) on the west bank of the La Romana River or Rio Dulce. Central Romana Corporation constructed a new port on the east bank of the river to accommodate the growing number of tourists after reaching capacity at its original location. Altos de Chavon is a Mediterranean artist community from the 16th century that was built on a hill above the Chavon River. In the heart of town, you’ll find an obelisk decorated with vibrant scenes from local life. Catalina Island, located south of the city, is home to beautiful beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and the sunken pirate ship of William Kidd.

Plenty of activities and attractions can be found at La Romana. Night owls will be astounded by all the options available to them here. Depending on the time of year, the locals host a variety of exciting activities that are well worth attending. Altos de Chavon should be on everyone’s itinerary. This “town” was built in the style of the Spanish colonial era of the 15th century, and it features numerous eateries, a museum displaying Taino relics, and a breathtaking vista of the Chavon River.
