Aruba, one of the three ABC islands in the southern Caribbean, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. As a matter of fact, you can easily get there by taking one of the cruises that depart out of Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale welcomes many cruise ships throughout the year at Port Everglades cruise terminals, offering a wide range of itineraries to Aruba. A cruise out of Fort Lauderdale is one of the most popular ways to experience the Caribbean islands. But this coastal South Florida city is a worthy destination in and of itself. It is worth exploring before or after going on a cruise to Aruba. Fort Lauderdale is well-known for its beaches, bars and restaurants, shopping, arts, culture, and events. There are also more than 165 miles of canals running through the city, earning it the nickname “Venice of America.” Take in the sights from a new perspective on a tour by water taxi, gondola ride, paddleboard, or even yacht.

Aruba, a tiny Dutch Caribbean island off the coast of Venezuela in the southern Caribbean Sea, has dry, sunny weather, blond beaches, and gentle surf. Because of that, Aruba is a very popular port of call for cruise ships. Ships dock at the Port Authority in Aruba’s quaint capital, Oranjestad.
Together with Bonaire and Curacao, Aruba forms a group referred to as the ABC islands. Unlike much of the Caribbean region, Aruba has a dry climate and an arid, cactus-strewn landscape. Constant trade winds bring cool breezes and cause the divi-divi trees to slope southwesterly. European influence shows in architecture that features Dutch gables painted in tropical pastels. It’s also evident in language, with English, Dutch, and Spanish spoken alongside the local tongue, Papiamento. The pastel façades of Oranjestad landmarks and shops lend an inviting and playful vibe to the capital city.
