Cruises from Fort Lauderdale to Antigua

Antigua is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. As a matter of fact, you can easily get there by taking one of the cruises that depart out of Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale welcomes many cruise ships throughout the year at Port Everglades cruise terminals, offering a wide range of itineraries to Antigua and Barbuda. A cruise out of Fort Lauderdale is one of the most popular ways to experience the Caribbean islands. Several of the world’s best-known cruise lines, including Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Viking Cruises, are all based in Fort Lauderdale.

But this coastal South Florida city is a worthy destination in and of itself. It is worth exploring before or after going on a cruise to Antigua and Barbuda. Fort Lauderdale is well-known for its beaches, bars and restaurants, shopping, arts, culture, and events. There are also more than 165 miles of canals running through the city, earning it the nickname “Venice of America.” Take in the sights from a new perspective on a tour by water taxi, gondola ride, paddleboard, or even yacht.

So, if you want to relax before or after your cruise to Antigua, Fort Lauderdale is the place to be.

Antigua and Barbuda

St. John’s is the capital, largest city and key port of the Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda. The city is home to the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, with exhibits on indigenous tribes and plantation life. The city is famous for its shopping malls as well as boutiques throughout the city, selling designer jewellery and haute-couture clothing. There are also independent, locally run establishments, selling fashions. St. John’s Cathedral, a 19th-century Anglican church, is on a hill near the 17th-century Government House. A monument to the nation’s founder, V.C. Bird, is next to the Public Market, which sells crafts and produce.

The city is approximately 4 square miles on size, and is designed in an easy to navigate grid system. As long as you have a map in hand, it is very difficult to get lost in St Johns – and if in doubt downhill is generally towards the harbour, and uphill is out of town.
